How I Tried Guatemalan Food and Loved It!
Today, Anna and I had a date night.  We went to the Renton Farmer’s Market, and walked through.  Which really didn’t take too long, since there were only about 25 booths.  If we really wanted to, we could have found some great food there, but it didn’t look like it would hit the spot.  So we walked around and looked at some nearby restaraunts.  Again, nothing looked like it would hit the spot.  And we were all ready to get back in the car and go to that same Thai/Pho restaraunt.
But then we came across this place:
Guatemalan Restaurant?  Would it be anything like Mexican food?  Was this place even any good? Well, my Yelp App said, “Yes.”  Of course, it was only 4 reviews.  But we decided to give it a try.  Yum!!
We ordered three dishes (but they brought us 6?!):
Dish Number 1: Hilachas (Shredded beef with potato in a delicious sauce-Guatemalan Style):
It came with rice.  And 2 fresh tortillas, which were so delicious.  I didn’t really know what it was, but looking at it now, it seems really good for you!  Here’s a recipe that looks really good and I will be trying soon!!
Dish Number 2:  Chile Relleno (Pasilla chile stuffed with ground beef & vegetable mix; dipped in egg batter):
Anna ordered the Chile Relleno, but after 1/2 way, we switched.  We both liked each other’s, so we shared (it’s taken a while, but I’m actually starting to like the whole sharing thing…).
Dish Number 3: Tamale de Pollo (no explanation necessary):
And then we shared the tamale.  Which I’d have to say was probably the best tamale I’ve ever had.  It was really so creamy and smooth! 
For the other 3 “dishes” they brought us out some mini chicken meatballs, which the adorable server/host said were called “chicken meatballs” when we asked.  That made us chuckle.  We also had a “salad” that was more of a dip.  And some of the best pickled peppers I’ve ever had. (Steve, take note if you haven’t tried these yet.)  They’re called Chiltepes, and they’re pretty much the chile pepper of Guatemala:
It was such a quick and intense heat.  Loved them.  In fact, I loved the pickled version so much, I bought a jar to take home!!

    The food looks delicious! I would try any part of it that was gluten free.Glad you had a fun date night!

  2. I have tried chiltepins — they are good! I haven't had them pickled though. I tried to grow them this year, but they didn't live. Maybe next year.
