The Longest Night

Today is the Winter Solstice.  That means that tonight is the longest night of the year.  That has lots of symbolism.  Mostly, for me it has spiritual connotations.  In fact, it’s interesting that we celebrate the birth of our Savior in the midst of the winter season (for those of us in the northern hemisphere).  Our church had a special service to address this tension tonight.  A lot of people experience loss and despair during the season of giving.  It often makes it tough for us to fully participate in the festivities.  I truly appreciate that Bethany Community Church would speak to the loss and loneliness people face.  Anna and I went, along with my dad, and one of our sisters-in-law.  It was a great healing time, and I actually feel like I can enjoy Christmas this year!  Yay, ’tis the season!
